Shaping Lives Update

Dear Friends

The QE Dec is always exciting and eventful as the season peaks. I am glad to see that Shaping Lives has been adequately living up to the varied demands of Le Passage’s operational business units (SBUs). It was my vision to see our guests undertake meaningful, itinerary inbuilt, karmic experiences on their sojourn in India, and that these experiences should bring smiles on their and our empanelled NGOs faces. I feel both have been achieved and Shaping Lives has evolved into an asset for Le Passage.
I take this opportunity to wish all our clients, and business, as well as NGO partners, in India and abroad, a harmonious and happy 2013.

Most Warmly
Arjun Sharma
Managing Director

NEWSLETTER FOR QE DEC 2012 : SHAPING LIVES

The season having commenced, Shaping Lives had its fair share of action via the Le Passage SBUs. Planned and impromptu CSR interventions kept the karmic spirit burning. For the first time since inception, we handled very large groups of over 35-40 clients, besides the routine FITs and smaller ones. Careful selection of NGOs and detailed visit program coordinated with the NGO heads ensured smooth and satisfying interventions for both our clients and our empanelled NGO partners.

October : 2012

The Mediplus group continued its karmic connection with Akshar Society children at Jaipur. It has become a format to include this visit into Mediplus itineraries. That is something we at Shaping Lives aimed for and it is heartening to see key groups associate with an NGO of their choice on a permanent basis. Why just Oct, these groups continued their association in Nov and Dec as well. October also saw a unique presentation being undertaken in all NCR offices of Le Passage to India and TUI-India. It was on organ donation and the response to fill up donor cards by our colleagues was overwhelming. The MOHAN Foundation conducting the presentation ran out of donor cards.

November 2012

It started with the lavish Diwali outing for our 180 children from Project Arman, Nizamudin. The children freaked out over the entertainment, party games, tattoo and nail painting interspersed with adequate and timely doses of snacks. The meal, served personally by us organisers/volunteers was requisitioned from The Heritage Village and Spa, Manesar, and obviously, it was finger licking scrumptious. Mr Arjun Sharma, MD, LPTI and Foundation head always makes it a point to be there and participative with family and so also this year. The children and staff of Project Arman were each gifted a fleece jacket inscribed with ‘ARMANI’ and the Shaping Lives logo as their Diwali gift by him at the end of the function.

With Diwali barely 3 days away, an impromptu request for an evening visit to an NGO, by one of our SBUs for their clients from Poland, took us by surprise. This group of 40 visited The Earth Saviours’ Foundation (TESF), on the week-end before Diwali, India’s festival of lights. The barrier of language was easily broken, as almost all the staff of TESF stayed back late evening despite the festival and took turns to guide the visitors through their NGOs works using monosyllables and sign language. The guests were also given a taste of Diwali as they were encouraged to light candles and burst a few crackers. Their glee as they held the sparklers was a recordable moment.

December : 2012

Started wonderfully with almost 60 representatives of Mondelez International, in India for a conference choosing a 2 hour CSR outing. Shaping Lives exposed them to the Deepalaya children of Sanjay Colony. The community round of the slums adjacent to this school was a huge success as the clients understood the background and living condition the children came from and could appreciate the difference our empanelled NGO Deepalaya was making. A small cultural event had them all dancing with the children and losing themselves to their love and affection. The group was delayed in departure, not because of us, but because they didn’t wish to leave. It was the biggest group Shaping Lives had handled and it became a benchmark with the flow of appreciation and smiles from our esteemed guests and our operational team at Mintcentive.

Xmas saw our affiliates TUI-India undertake a ‘Xmas Muffin’ initiative for all 250 staff and beneficiaries at TESF. Besides the muffins, monetary collection from the TUI team was also handed over to TESF founder, Mr Ravi Kalra. TI Infotech colleagues and some other LPTI donors collected enough to make a ‘wishlist’ Xmas present of 4 ipods to four girls at the NAB Centre for Blind Women. They were thrilled and our TI Infotech representatives were amazed to learn of the work these visually impaired girls are capable of. The handling of a Call Centre for a major mobile operator left even our hardcore IT experts dumbstruck.

The last Saturday of the year saw TESF once again crowded with PIO students who had come in for government run India familiarization program known as the ‘23rd Know India Program’. They spent an entire morning mingling with senior citizens, destitute women and the local, street and slum children undergoing informal schooling. They were also made aware of the NGO’s environment support initiatives and many of them promised to come back as volunteers as they saw young, local volunteers their own age, trickle into the NGO and take on music therapy, paper craft etc for the inmates.

Conclusion 2012 ended

2012 ended with a sponsored lunch for the resident inmates of NAB via personal philanthropy of two colleagues. Overall, it has been a year of growth and expansion. The SBUs are becoming interactive and a number of proposals have been sought and sent for the next season. Our SBUs are buying gift items for clients extensively from our NGOs working with normal and disabled children and that gives them the confidence besides the steady income flow as well. We wish all our readers and those who have been touched by Shaping Lives a contented 2013. Do come back and bring others to experience ‘karmic’ experiences in India via Shaping Lives. It will be a pleasure to give your soul …. satisfaction.
