Group visit Jan 2011: GIO Hongkong group
ADVERSITY CAN'T TAKE AWAY THEIR DETERMINATION TO SUCCEED
"We couldn't imagine what we saw?the sounds and the visual panorama were simply exhilarating"!
The Shaping Lives Foundation organized a day trip for all the clients on 3rd Jan 2011 to an education-cum counseling centre - 'Deepalaya Gram', (a hostel-cum-school facility) near Sohna, Haryana. It is located about 45 kms from Delhi, with approximately a 22 acre facility run by the NGO Deepalaya. This extensive area comprised of a School for 500 children, a static and mobile Dispensary for all local residents that would be turned into a multi-specialty hospital in the coming months.
The guests reached the location by 11.00 a.m. and were given a traditional welcome followed by mild refreshments. They were thereafter taken on a guided tour to the Dispensary so that they could look around the place and also see the specialized medical facilities. This was followed by a visit to the school where all had great fun interacting with students of various age groups, in their classrooms and outside. The clients introduced themselves through various games. The school has 500 children from the nearby areas and there were 22 villages associated with the NGO. Next, we moved to the neighbouring village for a walk and here, we got introduced to the real essence of rural India, and the unique lifestyle. The afternoon meal was a community lunch with the 110 boarders at the school. This was followed by a brief entertainment program by the children. There was high tea in the evening and thereafter it was time for us to leave.
We alongwith our fellow guests would have loved to enjoy more, but for time constraints! It was surely a thrilling experience for us to know and learn more about the potential of children in rural India. We had a great time interacting with one and all present with us in the trip and to all those innumerable school children and people from the NGO who gave us so much of love and affection. We were truly humbled! Thanks to everyone once again from the bottom of our heart.
