IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING!

"It was an experience of a lifetime."
On visit to Jaipur, organized by Shaping Lives on 08 Aug, 2011 was simply an enthralling experience; well I'd rather call it the "Akshar" experience, by this organization called Shaping Lives at Jaipur on 08 Aug, 2011. Akshar Society is one of our partner NGOs working on the education and upgradation of around 850 less privileged children from the slums of Jaipur, with the aid of an afternoon school program run at five different centres in the city.
The Akshar Society started their journey at the Kathputli slum centre almost 15 years ago with 5 children. This centre also runs morning sessions for those disadvantaged children who can't make it to the afternoon school program due to various compulsions in life. But what we liked the most in them was that all the children who come over here are highly motivated about achieving success in life.
We arrived to the welcome of a cloudburst which had the entire area outside the Subodh Play School Akshar Centre, left completely spellbound. Small children greeted us at the entrance and thereafter the interaction sessions started. The tiny tots studying in nursery were just so lovely; it was a sheer love at first sight for all of us from Belgium. The children initially were a little reluctant to talk to us, but in no time they were singing lots of nursery rhymes and posing for snaps.
Our camaraderie grew strong after the guests moved to the other room and then there were smaller groups set up, all within the hall. We also got introduced to Rishabh, the young and successful Aksharite, working as a customer care executive with Vodafone, Jaipur. Rishab grew up in this slum as a student of Akshar. But he always had the dream of making it big in life. And today, with great commitment and dedication, he has made his vision come true. Rishabh is a successful man, but he owes all of it to Akshar. No wonder, why he comes back in the evening to teach young boys and girls about different life skills and job opportunities.
We loved the way these young children entertained all, reciting poems and also by singing the national anthem of India - Jana Gana Mana. We gifted these kids with lots of confectionary items and stationeries, but nothing seemed more valuable than watching the smiling faces of these little stars! All of us from the team took a spontaneous initiative to contribute whatever we could in that given time. More than 5000 INR was instantly collected and we handed it over to the Akshar Founders, Mrs Reeta Kuhad and her team.
This was an experience of a lifetime and I am just so happy that I could witness and also be a part of this glorious event at the heart of the Pink City Jaipur. These kids are such a breath of fresh air amidst all the din and bustle of our daily life. Love them totally!
It was indeed very nice to have the group visiting the Akshar society. We are thankful for all the donations, sweets, toffees etc. Thanks for all your support.
